“The world of humanity is possessed of two wings; the male and female so long as these two wings are not equivalent in strength the bird will not fly. until she enjoys the same arena of activity, extraordinary attainment for humanity will not be realized. Humanity cannot wing its way to heights of real attainment”

 

On 01.12.2018 at 10 AM we started the program with a short prayer on the creation of Humankind. God created both man and women in His image and likeness. After the prayer students of St. Joseph’s School Visakhapatnam welcomed the gathering with beautiful welcome dance. Thereafter Sr. Sophy Mathew SDS staff of Vizag Navajeevan’ introduced and welcomed Fr. Noel SDB, the Director of Bosco Net, (Resource Mobilization unit of South Asia) Delhi to introduce the topic and welcome the gathering. Fr. Noel explained that the objective of this program is to Educate or train the trainers to form a better humanity. Only true knowledge can bring changes in the mindset of the people. After he welcomed the gathering everyone was asked to introduce themselves and to share their expectations of the program. After the ice breaking Fr. Noel played some video clips on the inequalities that is happening within the families. Gender equality must be learned from the family itself. 11. 15 to 11.30 tea break was given.

11.30 Am Fr. Noel introduced and welcomed Mr. Joshy, who is human rights activist. He explained about gender, sex, sexuality and gender and gender roles. He helped the group to understand the realities through many life experiences. 1.PM to 2 PM lunch break was given and everyone enjoyed a good meal.

2. pm to 3.pm Fr. Noel explained about Gender Equality and Gender Equity among young people. The session was followed by group discussions and presentation. The participants were divided in to four groups and there was an active participation from the group. Each group presented their topics very creatively. Session was moderated by Fr. Ratna Kumar SDB, Director of Vizag Navajeevan Bala Bhavan Society.

At. 4. 15 PM the day was concluded with tea and snacks.

 

02. 12. 2018: Second day of the Gender Equity Training:

At 9. 30 AM we started the program, Sr. Sophy welcomed all the participants wishing a successful day and Sisters from Divine savior English Medium School, Gajapathinagaram invoked the presence of God through a hymn. After the payer Sr. Sophy introduced and welcomed Sr. Nirmala Mathew, the main resource person of the day. Sr. Nirmala belongs to the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Ann’s of Luzern and presently she is practicing at District Court Visakhapatnam. She spoke on what are Rights, Understanding Human Rights, Human Rights are Women’s right too. It was a very informative, she enriched the participants through various examples, video clips and sharing. 

After the lunch break at 2- 3 PM Sr. Amitha Polimetla SDS, a Salvatorian Sister and research Scholar explained about the third gender. The whole issue of male and female was extended to the third gender or Transgenders. Though stories from Purana, Mahabharata she narrated the early traces of Transgenders.  She explained also some of the reasons for this gender defect. The society need to understand and accept them as they are with their differences then only, we can talk of a Equal gender society. Gender equality cannot remain with only with male and female but its high time to extend to Transgenders too.

Fr. Noel thanked Sr. Amitha for her presentation and he also thanked the group as he was leaving. Sr. Sophy thanked Fr. Noel for all his effort in creating a better humanity and wished him all the success. 

3 PM to 3.30 Pm Sr Princy FDCC, staff from Don Bosco PARA shared her experience in working with women and children. Fr. Ratna thanked her and appreciated all her efforts. Fr.Ratna  presented the evaluation questions and asked the group to write evaluations and suggestions. He also proposed the vote of thanks to Fr. Noel, Staff, Resource persons and all the participants. And Sr. Sophy thanked Fr. Ratna for his selfless services in actualizing this program successfully.  The two days program came to an end with tea and snacks.
